How can you follow your heart and do what you enjoy when the global market changes so quickly and corporations are slashing jobs daily?
Here’s my thoughts…
Now, more than ever with technical advances happening it’s tough to stay aligned with what you need to know. Employers have trouble keeping up with such a competitive market too. Keeping staff trained is expensive.
Preparing for a job interview with a current resume, proper certifications or degrees, qualified references than pertain to the position you’re applying for, personal experience that applies to the position and presentation of all this material is pertinent. Everything is on the line and yet how much does it all matter? How do you keep qualified?
In almost every industry good customer service is top priority (or should be)! Any business dealing with the public will stand out, retain customers and be recognized when they’re willing to go the extra mile making customers happy, satisfied and even surprised at the level of quality service. A business that stands behind their product with guarantees, exceptional friendly service with knowledgeable staff who are happy in their job wins hands down.
There’s a lot of discussion with buzz words like; integrity, authenticity, honesty, living our purpose, law of attraction and there’s reason for that. No matter how automated we become in society we admire, respect and will be loyal to companies that provide outstanding customer service and good quality products with reasonable prices.
Sure, there are bargain hunters who’ll always be looking for a deal, but at the end of the day when the products are inferior and the company behind them refuses to guarantee their service and/or the staff are unwilling to go the extra mile the business will go down.
As for anyone seeking employment in what may appear a cut-throat recessive market, the basics will always continue to separate the great from the educated. Here are my thoughts:
- Research the company and know what there policies, mission statement, service is all about so you can present with some authority and show initiative.
- Have a professional resume with experience related to the job description and quality references.
- Dress appropriately for the position you’re applying when applying or attending a job interview. Be clean, hair tidy, in other words look professional.
- Be prompt, cell phone off and focus on getting the position.
- Be confident, stand tall, speak clearly with respect for the interviewer or employer. Be polite and listen to what you’re being asked before responding. Ask intelligent questions about the company.
- Thank the person who interviewed by name.
- Follow-up.
If you’ve done your homework and inquired about the position of the job, researched the company itself and feel fully qualified to perform the tasks required it will be so much easier to present yourself confidently. Show a willingness to learn. Especially when you are seeking employment in an area of expertise that you’re interested in, show your passion and willingness to learn. Often your enthusiasm and energy will be more impressive than someone with less experience and little desire.
If you’re unemployed continue to educate yourself in the field of expertise you wish to pursue. Take a job you are qualified for as a stepping stone to what you want to pursue. Don’t ever stop learning! Being complacent in today’s economy will never keep you moving forward. Be willing to learn through volunteer work where not only will you get knowledge, contacts and experience it often can lead to paid employment.
